Re: Staff Announcement – Director, Anti-Racism & Cultural Diversity Office (ARCDO)

I am pleased to announce that Jodie Glean will be joining U of T in the role of Director, Anti-Racism & Cultural Diversity Office (ARCDO), effective Monday, March 18.

In this role, Jodie will serve our tri-campus community to promote awareness, celebrate racial and ethnocultural diversity, and address issues of racial discrimination and harassment. ARCDO will continue to partner with our vibrant community to create intentionally inclusive learning, working and living environments, and to expand institutional initiatives on anti-racism, anti-Black racism, Antisemitism, and Islamophobia through proactive education and training.

Jodie holds a Masters of Arts, Educational Studies from Concordia University, a Bachelor of Arts (honours), Political Science from Carleton University, is currently completing her Doctor of Philosophy, Education at York University, and brings more than seven years of experience in the field of equity and diversity. Her approach to equity is grounded in compassion. She recognizes the intersectionality of multiple identities and addresses the simultaneity of the individual’s experiences.

Jodie joins us from Humber College, where she worked as Manager, Human Rights, Equity, Diversity. In this role, she supported Humber in facilitating compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Employment Equity Act. Prior to that, Jodie was responsible for developing York University’s anti-racism programming, which resulted in the formation of York’s first pan-university Committee on Race & Inclusion.

I would like to sincerely thank Saimah Baig for her ongoing support as ARCDO’s Interim Program Coordinator over the past year. I would also like to thank Professor Nouman Ashraf from the Rotman School of Management, Nythalah Baker, Equity and Diversity Officer at UTM, and Karima Hashmani, Senior Advisor, Equity and Diversity at UTSC for their ongoing advice and support. The ARCDO team will be expanding under Jodie’s leadership.

I will be working closely with Jodie to advance the university’s deep commitment to equity and diversity and to fostering an inclusive environment where students, faculty, and staff members of our community are respected. Jodie’s orientation will include meeting with staff, faculty, and students at each campus. My office will be making these arrangements over the next several weeks. Together with our equity community, we will build on our strong foundation to ensure the continuation of anti-racism initiatives, training and programming at the University.

Please join me in welcoming Jodie to the University of Toronto.
