Re:        Staff Announcement – Linda Hills, Director, Learning & Leadership Development

I am pleased to announce that Linda Hills will be joining the HR & Equity team in the role of Director, Learning & Leadership Development on Monday, September 10. Linda will be responsible for determining the strategic vision for the Organizational Learning & Development Centre (ODLC) and will direct the implementation of staff development strategies, policies and programs that support all administrative staff across our three campuses.

Linda joins us from Emergent Assets, a boutique consulting firm where she held the position of Vice-President, People & Culture. In this role, she was responsible for developing leadership-driven talent and learning solutions for clients, including the creation of a women’s leadership program and emotional intelligence training & coaching for executives. Prior to this, Linda built a career focused on staff development and learning, beginning with early roles as a facilitator and instructor before taking progressively more senior roles, including time spent as the Director, Organizational Development and Learning at Capital One Canada and Director, Solution Design and Sourcing (Learning) at CIBC.

Linda holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University, a Master of Arts, Adult Education & Distance Learning from the University of Phoenix, an Advanced Human Resources Certificate from Queen’s University Industrial Relations Centre, and is an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation.

The introduction of this revised role is one of many recommendations adopted from the review of ODLC that was conducted in 2017. Further recommendations will be implemented in the coming months with the goal of creating an ODLC that supports the University of Toronto as a world-class institution and employer of choice, but also an employer of opportunity.

I would like to thank the ODLC team for their ongoing engagement as we move through this transition and, in particular, I would like to sincerely thank Mark Seymour for his support and for providing leadership as Interim Director over the past year. Mark will be moving to the Division of University Advancement in the role of Director, Advancement Talent Management. There he will be a member of the senior management team charged with the development of strategies and processes to support a talent pipeline within the advancement community.  Congratulations, Mark. We wish you all the best.

I also appreciate the support of the ODLC team and of the broader community as we continue to engage in consultations and move towards refreshing the services in this unit, which are essential to offering professional development that appeal to all levels of administrative staff. I am very excited to see this positive transformation continue under Linda’s leadership.
