U of T Annual United Way Campaign Kicks Off

With three campuses across this dynamic and diverse city region, U of T and the surrounding community share both opportunities and challenges. Issues of mental health, poverty, employment instability, and the rising cost of necessities such as food, housing and transport impact our community. These issues are not only topics of study for U of T researchers and students, but the unfortunate daily reality for many within our region.

For this reason, the U of T community has contributed almost $20 million to the Greater Toronto community through the United Way over the past 20 years.

In 2018 alone, our faculty, staff and students contributed over $600,000. Our support directly impacts a variety of programs that service the community. As a result of past fundraising, over 15,800 children and their families took part in programs geared at helping to raise healthy kids and more than 8000 education and job training sessions were provided to newcomers, helping them settle into their new home.

This year, the University of Toronto is once again collaborating with the United Way of Greater Toronto in its annual fundraising campaign to create a more equitable and inclusive city.

As the 2019 campaign launches, please consider joining us in supporting the campaign. It’s a wonderful way to make a real difference and give back to the communities and neighbourhoods that lift the University of Toronto.

Here are some examples of what your contribution can provide, this year:

  • $50 provides a frost prevention kit for two homeless people, including a scarf, toque, gloves and pocket warmers.
  • $100 can provide at-risk kids with the necessary school supplies to start the year off right.
  • $260 provides 10 people with 10 weeks of guidance on how to support a family member or friend struggling with mental health issues.
  • $500 can enroll a single mom in a career training course so can she can get a job and support her family.

If you have any questions about the U of T campaign, please contact the team at unitedway@utoronto.ca.

Thank you for your consideration and support.
