Who’s True Blue? Lorraine McDonnell

The True Blue Award emerged from the most recent Speaking Up: Faculty & Staff Experience Survey. The results showed that feeling valued and recognized in the communities in which they work rated highly among employees.

The True Blue Award complements the recognition programs already in existence at the University of Toronto (U of T) and provides staff and faculty with an opportunity to recognize their colleagues in a more informal way. Award recipients are nominated by their colleagues for embodying U of T’s true-blue spirit.

Lorraine McDonnell holding True Blue Award“In my opinion, Lorraine is the most suitable candidate for the True Blue Award. She is the first person to greet us all in the morning and she welcomes us with a friendly smile. She is always willing to share her knowledge and expertise with her colleagues and she goes above and beyond in carrying out her duties.

“She provided me with excellent guidance and support during the period when I was involved with Unit 5 payroll processing. She explained the payroll procedures in detail and always took time out of her busy schedule to answer my numerous questions.

“Not once did she tell me that she was too busy (and she is often very busy!) to help me and this is the same cordial and generous behaviour that she displays towards her other colleagues as well.”

“…[her] ability to see a bit of humour in every situation…made my payroll processing experience much easier and a lot more enjoyable.”

“…always found Lorraine to be very thorough in her work and she carries out her duties with extreme diligence. Lorraine’s presence on the 8th floor makes it a more welcoming and inclusive place.”
